Psychotic depression is a severe form of depression that includes symptoms of psychosis, such as hallucinations or delusions, in addition to typical depressive symptoms. Individuals with psychotic depression may believe things that aren’t true (delusions) or see/hear things that aren’t there (hallucinations). Treatment usually involves a combination of antipsychotic medications, antidepressants, and psychotherapy to manage both depression and psychosis.
