Sleep Disturbances in Depression

Sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping), are common symptoms of depression. Insomnia can involve difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up early, while hypersomnia involves sleeping too much. These disturbances can worsen depressive symptoms. Treatment often includes addressing the underlying depression through medication and therapy, as well as practicing good sleep hygiene.
