Newport Beach Therapist

Brandon Shapiro

AMFT

Brandon is a down-to-earth, compassionate, and approachable psychotherapist. Clients describe him as warm, thoughtful, and deeply present. Before moving into full-time clinical practice, Brandon spent several years building digital mental health products—designing tools that supported the emotional wellbeing of both young people and adults. That experience continued to strengthen his understanding of the mental health field, but it was his own experience in therapy that called him back to the core of the work: real connection, healing, and a commitment to working directly with individuals, face-to-face.

Brandon earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado and his Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. He has supported clients across a variety of settings, including private practice and community mental health, with a particular focus on teens and young adults. His areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, identity development, and life transitions.

In the therapy room, Brandon takes a relational and collaborative approach, drawing from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based frameworks. He meets clients with presence and curiosity, tailoring his work to the unique needs of each person—whether they’re navigating a difficult season or seeking to connect with the most authentic version of themselves.

Outside of therapy, Brandon is a surfer, runner, and nature lover with a deep passion for health and wellness. He lives in Newport Beach with his wife, their dog Remi, and a baby on the way. Having grown up immersed in local beach culture, he understands the emotional pressures and unspoken expectations that often shape young people in communities like this. He brings that lived experience into the room, creating a space where clients feel seen, supported, and able to reconnect with who they truly are.
