Automatic Thoughts

Automatic thoughts refer to the spontaneous, often unconscious thoughts that arise in response to a situation. In CBT, these thoughts are examined for accuracy and usefulness, as they can contribute to emotional distress. Negative automatic thoughts often lead to unhealthy emotional and behavioral responses, such as anxiety or depression. CBT helps individuals identify these thoughts, question their validity, and replace them with more constructive and balanced perspectives. Recognizing and challenging automatic thoughts is an essential step in managing negative emotions and improving mental well-being.
