Decatastrophizing

Decatastrophizing, also known as cognitive restructuring, is a technique used in CBT to help individuals challenge and reframe catastrophic thoughts. These thoughts involve assuming the worst possible outcome of a situation, which can lead to heightened anxiety and stress. Through decatastrophizing, individuals learn to evaluate the likelihood of their fears actually coming true and develop more balanced perspectives. This approach helps reduce the emotional intensity of catastrophic thinking and encourages individuals to cope with uncertainty in a more constructive way.
