Melancholic Depression

Melancholic depression is a subtype of Major Depressive Disorder characterized by severe symptoms, including loss of pleasure in most activities, lack of reactivity to pleasurable stimuli, early morning awakening, and significant weight loss. Individuals with melancholic depression may feel extreme guilt and hopelessness. Treatment often includes antidepressants and CBT to address the severe emotional and physical symptoms associated with this form of depression.
